Re: 2020 Spring/Summer Season
Date: 6 May, 2020
Dear Goalgetters’ Family:
Firstly, we hope that all of you are staying safe and are coping with the Covid 19 Pandemic as well as possible.
We have all been waiting to hear about our soccer season from Wisconsin Youth Soccer and recently we received the following message:
Recently, Wisconsin Youth Soccer (WYSA) announced that all spring/summer 2020 programming is cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. This includes all local level programming, which means all East Central leagues are also canceled.
This decision was not made lightly and made with input from US Soccer, US Youth Soccer, the US Olympic Committee, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and Governor Evers’ COVID-19 task force.
Lake to Lake Soccer has also canceled the spring recreational season for Goalgetters, Manitowoc Lutheran and other local clubs.
The cancellation of the East Central Select and Goalgetters recreational seasons are unfortunate but this was a methodical and well thought out decision. We are disappointed but Goalgetters understands that the most important thing is the safety of our families and communities.
With this announcement, we as a club are getting all of the administrative processes in place to send a partial refund to each and every family that has paid for their child or children to participate in Goalgetters/Lakeshore United FC soccer this spring, recreational or select.
As you all know, we are an all-volunteer, non-profit club. We have the lowest fees for participation in the entire East Central Soccer District and probably the State of Wisconsin. We have kept our fees low to make sure we can get as many players to participate in Manitowoc soccer as possible. However in a time like this, our revenue is reduced to almost zero. In addition, we have had the worst pizza fund-raising sale ever (85% lower than normal). This pizza sale normally brings in more than $15,000 which is critical to our being able to continue operations.
Yet, pandemic or not Goalgetters still has to pay taxes, land mortgage, rent for our storage building, player insurance, park/field maintenance and registration fees. We are going to do all we can to reduce expenses but most of them are fixed and non-negotiable. Many of these fees were paid well in advance of the season starting and cannot be recovered. In order to prepare for and play this summer, we must continue paying and managing club operations.
In order to cover the cost of fees and operations already paid by Goalgetters through April, we will refund most but not all of your initial registration fees. We will not charge fees for any summer participation by your player or for any operation fees going forward. This eliminates any concerns or additional refund requests should we not be able to play any soccer this summer.
Goalgetters will be offering every player opportunities to train and play games this summer (providing it is allowed of course). Lakeshore United FC, our affiliate club in Sheboygan will be holding two camps this summer. One will be in Sheboygan and the other in Manitowoc. Due to the pandemic and the cancellation of our normal season, they are offering discounts for both camps. The UW Milwaukee camp held in Sheboygan (U11 to U19), July 20-23 costs $325. Lakeshore United FC is offering our players a $100 discount. The Stars Camp which will be in Manitowoc for U-6 through U12 is now proposed to take place July 27-31. The cost is $119 for U9-U12 and $90 for U6-U8. Lakeshore United FC is offering a $25 discount for this camp. All rec and select players can take advantage of these discounts.
In lieu of the East Central Select season, we are planning a lot of opportunities for our players as the Governor’s Badger Bounce Back plan progresses. When we get to Stage 1 which allows for groups of 10 to gather, we will begin training and some small-sided games. When stage 2 with groups of 50 or less are allowed, we will look to train in larger groups. At that time, we are working with Lakeshore United to develop a mini-league for games which would at a minimum include Sheboygan, Kohler, Plymouth, Kiel etc. Our goal is to get in multiple games per week in July and early August.
With this in mind, we want to ask our Goalgetter family for some critical support to keep soccer in our community. It is possible that without your additional financial support, Goalgetters might not have the financial strength to continue as a club over the next 12 months. We collect 75% of our revenue in spring.
Refund Form On this form you will see several options. You can request a full refund minus admin fees, donate part of your remaining registration fees to help Goalgetters stay financially sustainable or donate all of your fees.
You MUST return this completed form by email to firstname.lastname@example.org within 2 weeks after this email is sent to receive your reimbursement. You can also mail it to Chris Gutman at 3624 Calumet Avenue, Manitowoc WI 54220 but must be received two weeks from May 7, 2020.
Why 2 weeks? In order to reduce the administrative costs from our service providers, we must do this reimbursement at one time. We have over 350 reimbursements to complete which makes this a monumental task. If we receive your reimbursement request after 2 weeks from sending this email, your reimbursement will be reduced by an additional admin fee of 25% to cover additional admin expenses for processing.
We know that some families are struggling now and therefore completely understand that not all of you can make a donation to help keep soccer in our community. But, if you can help at all or significantly, your donation will be critical to keep this program available for your kids for years to come. We know you all care, will do whatever you can and we thank you very much in advance for your support!
